The Deol with a Difference!

The Deols have always been attributed with words like “strength,” “valor,” “might” and “action.” From the time Dharmendra made his mark as the robust hero, to get a physique like him became a dream for all his fans. His son Sunny Deol followed suit and he too emerged as the strong man with films like Ghayal, Arjun Pandit, Ghatak, Border and Ghadar. He proved that he was a worthy son of his father. Bobby too did quite a few action packed movies. He started off with Barsaat and went ahead to do movies like Bichhu, Humraaz and Ajnabee where he not only flaunted his good looks, but he also made sure that his romantic side got recognized along with his fighting skills. But then when Abhay Deol made his debut with “Socha Na Tha,” everyone dismissed him to be the black sheep of the Deol family. He could neither fight, nor could he threaten his rivals in guttural ferocity. Then how would the new Deol survive?

Well, Abhay did survive and carved out a niche for himself. Though his debut film did not become a block buster, he went ahead to get nominated for the best debutant male actor. Abhay was careful enough not to jump into a slew of films. He measured his step and chose his films with ease. He went totally out of his family’s tradition of doing action films. His next flick was with Soha Ali Khan and Ahista Ahista he started impressing his audience and the critics. That was not all! Abhay did not deter to share the screen with a multi star cast and he also went ahead to become a fantastical super hero in Honeymoon Travels Private Ltd. After Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, it was Manorama Six Feet Under that got him noticed for his brilliant performance. The movie won the Best Film at the MIAAC film festival in New York City and that added another feather to the youngest Deol’s cap. After Oye Lucky Lucky Oye won the won the National Award for 'Best Popular Film' Abhay came to be known as the thinking woman’s sex symbol. The whole idea of women swooning over him got a little more pronounced with Dev D. It was a path breaking movie in Indian Cinema. Even his latest flick “Road Movie” did pretty well at the box office.

Abhay’s films are now being awaited with baited breath. He had learnt Salsa for a previous movie and now he seems to be learning Krav Maga, an Israeli form of martial arts for his next movie, Basra. There is quite a ripple about his movie Ayesha where he has been paired with Sonam Kapoor. Even the very talented Aparna Sen has zeroed in on this fresh lease of talent for her movie Gulel. Abhay is also on the cover of Man's World and Time Out Mumbai, with titles such as the new face of Indian cinema. He is in the top 50 most desirable men. This Deol is sure to change the way people knew his uncle and his brothers. He is on a roll. He was heard to have ideated the whole theme of Dev D and is also planning to produce films under his own production house. This sexy man is surely in the move to make his place among the toppers of not only Hindi Cinema but is digging his way to join the Hollywood league!!!
