“Sara Sheher mujhe Loin ke naam se janta hai!” Does this remind you of some one from the Bollywood fraternity? Well it definitely does for this is one of the most remembered and often pronounced dialogue of Ajit, the villain who sat with a pomp in Yaadon ki Baraat and many such movies. Just like Ajit there have been many men in this industry who have set a few standards in case of fashion, dialogues, attitude and personality.

Another man whose dialogues were on the lips of most youngsters was Raj Kumar. With his guttural “Jaani” he seemed to drive a bullet though the heart of his enemy without firing a shot. In many a movies this hero got to romance the ladies in his unique way and also flaunt his words to injure them. He only needed to say, “Humko mita sake, zamaane mein dum nahi. Hum se zamaana hain, Zamaane se hum nahin,” and that would be enough to make a chill run down the spine of the bad man. With his red muffler stylishly thrown around his neck, Raj Kumar created an aura persona and stature.

This definitely reminds us of another man whose style and personality could give any man a run for his money. Yes you guessed it right. It is Feroz Khan, the man considered to be a fashion industry in himself. With tremendous sex appeal he made his way to the top with films like Qurbani, Nagin, Khoon aur Paani, Dharmatma, Dayavan, Yalgaar and Jaanbaaz. They were a package of style, sensational story lines, beautiful women and drama mixed with action. With his inimitable grandeur, he created a separate place for himself. Not conventionally the number one choice of directors, this man managed to pull a crowd wherever he stood.

Dev Anand was yet another man who carved out a niche for himself with his own style. With movies like Guide, Jewel Thief and Johnny Mera Naam, this man not only made several young people adopt his swagger and ever moving hand movements, but he also drove home a point that you need not be extremely handsome or well built to make it to the top. His authentic way of dangling his cigarette from his lips became a rage.

It is here that we also happen to remember the handsome, tender and extremely many hero Dharmendra. From the time he made his way to the film industry he showed what strength could do. Commonly known as Dharam paji, he stole the hearts of millions of women and most importantly of Dream Girl Hema Malini who went on to become his wife. With his perfect bedroom eyes, Dharam Paji soon became a rage as his films Raziya Sultan, Professor Pyarelal, Sholay, Chupke Chupke and Naseeb became super hits at the box office. Jeetendra too followed suit and became known as “Jumping Jack” in B-town. With his dancing skills and white shoes he made all his fans dance with vigor and frenzy. While Caravaan, Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne, Mere Huzoor, Ban Phool and Badalte Rishte became hits, his popularity also increased with leaps and bounds.

But then came a man who was tall; tall in height and stature. Amitabh Bachchan changed the way people looked at heroes. He brought in the concept of the “Angry Young Man” and boy, the idea worked wonders. Right after Zanjeer, he shot to fame and till date every aspiring actor wants to achieve his quarter. His baritone voice, his long legs and his athletic physique worked wonders for him. Women were swooning over him while he created history with films like Abhimaan, Deewar, Coolie, Mili, Majboor, Amar Akbar Anthony, Muqaddar ka Sikandar, Silsila, Lawaaris, Shakti, Mohabbatein, Baghban, Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham, Black and Paa, he went to break his earlier set records. Even to this day, this talented man has not turned back from experimenting with new roles. His popularity is still on the rise!

Very clise to Amitabh Bachchan is another man- Shah Rukh Khan. A man who started off in the small screen and then became the most admired and sought after hero; he has the ability to play every role with equal élan. From being a villain in Darr and Baazigar to playing an autistic man in My Name is Khan, Shah Rukh has tried all the shades that he could. To him every role seems a cake walk and for his followers he is almost next to God. With his wit, he made his drawback his strength and he made people stammer like him to impress their lady love.

But after all these great men it will be sacrilege not to remember the one and only Raj Kapoor. The Indian Clarke Gable, he took Indian Cinema to a different level. If Anari impressed you, then Sangam and Teesri Kasam would have melted your heart. With his trademark Charlie Chaplin walk, he set one milestone after another, making any hero till date to reach that hiatus. Awaara, Boot Polish, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Mera Naam Joker, Barsaat and Bobby, he not only created a standard for himself, but also launched many more people like Zeenat Amaan, Mandakini, Dimple Kapadia and Simi Grewal.

There is a different note that is attached to each man named here. But who surpasses whom and what fascinates other is hard to tell. We are just happy to see them and enjoy their performances. After all these men are all performers and that is their religion!
